What's New at BrettYoung

BrettYoung™ has launched two new canola hybrids. BY 6204TF, equipped with the TruFlex™ canola system with Roundup Ready® Technology, features top-end yield performance (102%*) and mid-maturity (+0.1 days*), along with the flexibility of the TruFlex Weed Control system. We’ve also expanded our Clearfield® canola portfolio with BY 5125CL, an earlier maturing (+0.4 days*) and higher-yielding (106%*) sister variety to our very popular 5545 CL variety. Both of these new varieties carry first-generation Clubroot resistance and feature DefendR®-rated Blackleg genetics, meaning you get industry-leading multi-genic Blackleg protection with a strong R rating. Peace of mind with the yield performance you come to expect with BrettYoung canola varieties.

Our Elite® soybean lineup continues to provide growers with a diverse range of products that are tailored to fit the specific needs of most farms, most notably being Amirani R2, which delivers excellent yield performance and ultra-early maturity (000.5 RM). Amirani R2 allows growers in all geographies to harvest earlier while maintaining excellent yield potential and is ideal for growers in ultra-early maturity zones looking for a high-performance variety.

2020 marks the launch of an exciting partnership for BrettYoung. We have united with Rizobacter, a world-leading agricultural microbiology company, to bring useful, new inoculant technologies to Western Canada. This includes Osmium™ Pea/Lentil and Osmium™ Chickpea, a line of liquid inoculants for pea, lentil and chickpea growers that features Osmo Protector Technology for a new level of performance in on-seed life and seed treatment compatibility. Signum®, a new liquid soybean inoculant, includes the same benefits plus Bio-Inducer Technology to promote earlier nodulation and increased yield potential. Speak with your BrettYoung representative to learn more about why these technologies should be included in your 2021 pulse and soybean seeding plans.

Lastly, we’re proud to announce BrettYoung has earned the designation as one of “Canada’s Best Managed Companies” designation for the third consecutive year. The award continues to validate all the hard work the entire BrettYoung team does to serve the needs of our amazing customers. It also acknowledges the world-class suppliers who are an integral part of the value we deliver to the field. We especially thank all our customers who choose to do business with BrettYoung as part of your work in feeding the world.

Distinct by Design: Biologicals Backed by Rizobacter Technologies

Posted: Dec 17, 2020

Biologicals help deliver healthier crops and better yields, like BrettYoung’s Signum Soybean, Osmium Pea/Lentil and Osmium Chickpea products that release microorganisms that trigger processes that not only enhance nutrient use, but also increase tolerance to stressors like drought or extreme temperatures. The technology behind BrettYoung inoculants comes from our partners at Rizobacter—an industry-leading microbiology business that’s been delivering growers better agronomic performance for over 40 years. Ariel Gohlke is the North American business manager for Rizobacter. From growing his own crops in Argentina to studying administration and working with Canadian growers in Saskatchewan, let’s take a closer look at how Gohlke, and the Rizobacter team, help BrettYoung deliver superior biologicals to North American farmers.

Distinct by Design: Growing Perennial Ryegrass with BrettYoung

A Look at Profits and Agronomics with Grower Bruce Rampton

Bruce Rampton is a third-generation grower who’s been working on his family’s land near Dauphin, MB for almost four decades.

After all this time, there are few things he enjoys more than scrutinizing his spreadsheets to track input costs, ROI and other financial data related to his farm. He’s a numbers guy.

“It allows you to do a proper reconciliation on everything and break your expenses down, so you get the true picture,” Rampton adds. “It’s the only way you really know what’s going on.”

Since he’s seen crop production grow more complex over the years, Rampton is convinced that knowing his way around a spreadsheet is a good skill to have.

“When I came home from University and started farming, probably the most important tool on the farm was a welder. For the last 20 years or so, I’d say the most important tool is a spreadsheet,” he says.

When Rampton crunches the numbers for his BrettYoung perennial ryegrass, it’s clear why it’s been his favourite crop since he started growing turf seed a few years ago.

Distinct by Design: Keeping Up to Date on Clubroot

Posted: Dec 04, 2020

When it comes to Clubroot, Rene Mabon knows his stuff. He grew up on a mixed grain and dairy farm in southern Manitoba, graduated with a degree in agriculture from the University of Manitoba and has spent over 30 years sharpening his skills as an agronomist. Most of those three decades have been with BrettYoung as our Agronomic and Regulatory Services Manager. He often has the chance to share his expertise, not just in-house, but also with our retail partners and grower customers. Mabon is the author behind BrettYoung’s Clubroot update, a regular feature in BrettYoung’s annual Product Guide. This yearly feature outlines the latest developments in the battle against Clubroot and offers advice for managing this serious canola disease from this season to the next. Read more.
