Multiplcation

BrettYoung provides a hands-on approach to seed multiplication that offers significant benefits to our business partners.

Our staff of ten experienced production agronomists are situated across the agricultural regions of western Canada. They work very closely with farmers and seed producers in their areas to ensure best management practices are used to produce top yields of high-quality seed. We are pleased to work with a solid group of long-time contract growers across western Canada. At the same time, every year BrettYoung agronomists are introducing more farmers to seed production of new crops.

Our agronomists typically work with farmers to scout fields prior to seeding to identify potential weed problems and increase the chances of successful seed multiplication. The agronomists can help choose the best species by discussing land type, normal growing conditions in the area and cropping practices with the individual farmers

Seed stock is delivered to the farmer and the agronomist remains in close contact with the farmer to monitor establishment of the field. Inspections are made throughout the growing season – after establishment, both autumn and spring to determine winter survival, throughout the summer to make fertility and weed control recommendations, and at harvest.

BrettYoung is able to report the ongoing progress of seed multiplication through all stages of production. Our production agronomists are equipped to transmit the results of their inspections in real-time through a proprietary Blackberry application. This allows us to monitor progress of the crop very closely and advise customers of any developments.

Finally, our agronomists collect harvest samples from all contracted crops. These samples are analyzed to determine quality of the harvested seed. This information is then available to help in setting cleaning schedules so that we can meet customer shipping requirements.
